The PDA Union is applying to be formally recognised by Alliance Boots for the purposes of collective bargaining. If successful, this historic development will give pharmacists employed by the company an unprecedented level of influence with their employer. Formal recognition would permit matters such as pay and conditions to be the subject of consultation and, where applicable, negotiation between the company and elected PDA Union representatives who would have a mandate to articulate the views of Alliance Boots pharmacists on key matters.
The PDA Union has been extremely active within Alliance Boots over the past few years. PDA Union advisors and representatives have achieved great success for pharmacist and pre reg members who have been the subject of disciplinary action or have needed to challenge their employer about being treated unfairly, for example through changes to their hours (CDP), cuts in premium pay, lunchtime working and the application of performance improvement plans (PIPs). Formal recognition would build on our success and help create a better work environment for employed pharmacists in the future.
Based on previous informal approaches, it is likely that Alliance Boots management will resist our approach and the matter will have to proceed to independent adjudication through the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC).
In order to demonstrate that sufficient numbers of employed pharmacists support our approach, the PDA Union has collated a portfolio of evidence to present to the CAC if required.
We are also gathering direct feedback from Alliance Boots pharmacists via this webpage and each completed response will increases the chances of the PDA Union being granted formal recognition rights. Please pledge your support by completing this form and encourage all your pharmacist or pre reg friends and colleagues to do the same. Every pledge counts and this is a unique and historic opportunity for Alliance Boots pharmacists to help shape their future.
The PDA Union is collecting this information to help support our application, should we have to make one to the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC). Please note that the information gathered through this website will never be released to Alliance Boots, nor will the company become aware of which pharmacists support our application or are members of the PDA Union. Only if required would the information be provided to the independent Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) so that this neutral body can cross reference employee lists provided to it by Alliance Boots and verify the PDA Union application. After this process the data would be destroyed.
