This is the home page for the Community Employee Membership group. Meetings are held 3 times a year and please contact the Chairman if you have any items you wish to raise at the next meeting. Dates for the next meeting will be published on this site.
The Chairman of the Employee Group is Richard Flynn and can be contacted by email through the "contact us" icon and selecting "membership group-community employee" in the subject box.
We are finding it difficult to recruit employee pharmacist to this membership group. We are not convinced of the reasons why this should be the case as we know that there are plenty of willing and able employee pharmacists in existence. We also know that employee pharmacist face many employment issues for which union representation would be essential to ensure that employee pharmacists are not treated in an unfair manner and that employers always follow due process when dealing with their staff.
We have put forward two proposals why employees have failed to engage with the union. Firstly, the employees are intimidated by their employers and may feel that being an active union members may be a disadvantage to their careers within that company. Secondly, employees believe that the company will look after their interests and can see no reason why they should have their own insurance or have union membership.
Although the number of employees on our membership group are not up to the quota available, we do have forward thinking and active members on the committee. Our first meetings have been to ensure that there is a structure to the group and to identify the issues concerning employees.
We do need feedback from all employees. We understand that there are reasons why people may not wish to commit to becoming a committee member, but that does not mean that we are not open to ideas from any employee pharmacist. If you have any concerns, examples of poor practice, examples of exemplary practice or any other matter that you feel should be of concern to the committee then please email the chairman of this group.
